Lorton, Virginia
Home to history and modern comforts.
Welcome to Lorton.
Lorton sits in the southern part of Fairfax County along the Occoquan River, a perfect blend of suburbia and history with a mix of new and established communities.
With well-regarded schools and plenty of places to explore, Lorton is a great place to live for families and professionals alike.
The Lorton Vibe
As a D.C. suburb, Lorton has an easy, close-to-everything feel, with newer neighborhoods, established communities, and quick access to Fort Belvoir, Alexandria and the rest of Northern Virginia.

Stop By Here
Lorton is full of history. First on the list is Gunston Hall, the Georgian-style home of founding father George Mason, built in the 1750s and now a National Historic Landmark. The Workhouse Arts Center, on the grounds of the former Lorton prison, houses the Lucy Burns Museum and hosts exhibits, performances and art classes year-round, plus events like Workhouse Fireworks and Brewfest.

The Best Bites and Beer
Fairwinds Brewing pours its own brews in a social taproom, with food trucks on weekends and events every month. Antonielli’s Pizza, Glory Days Grill and Squisito Pizza and Pasta are local favorites too.

Nature All Around
Occoquan Regional Park sits on the Occoquan River with historic sites, event spaces, water activities and trails. Newington Heights Park has a playground and sports fields. And Meadowood offers horse trails, hiking and mountain bike trails, fishing ponds, and more than 800 acres of forest and meadow.

Getting Around
Lorton has easy access to I-95. The Fairfax Connector runs buses to Metrorail and Metrobus stations, and the Lorton VRE station offers commuter trains into Alexandria and D.C. For trips south, the Amtrak Auto Train leaves right from Lorton.

With parks, restaurants, museums and entertainment, there’s never a dull moment in Lorton. You get a suburban feel with the city close at hand.
