Living in Alexandria

Welcome to Alexandria.

Alexandria sits on the northeastern tip of Northern Virginia, just south of downtown D.C. along the Potomac River. It includes Old Town Alexandria, a historic city established in the 18th century, along with many communities in Fairfax County.

Beyond the charm of Old Town, Alexandria is home to Kingstowne, a lively planned community of about 5,300 homes, the architecturally significant Hollin Hills, Cameron Station, and many other wonderful neighborhoods. You get every modern comfort of food, shopping and convenience, surrounded by museums and historic sites.

Alexandria

A Historically Rich Town

As George Washington’s hometown, it’s no surprise that Alexandria is steeped in history. From the cobblestone streets to the colonial-era architecture, the town is full of places to learn and explore. Gadsby’s Tavern Museum, Christ Church and Mount Vernon are all here, offering an amazing glimpse into America’s first years.

Natural Beauty

The city has around 900 acres of parks and open space. Founders, Jones Point, Tide Lock, Oronoco Bay and Waterfront Park all sit along the Potomac, some with kayaking and canoeing. Dog owners love the fenced off-leash area at Montgomery Park, and families will find playgrounds at Armory Tot Lot, Ben Brenman Park, Windmill Hill and more.

Don’t miss Huntley Meadows Park, with forests, wetlands and meadows that make it a local favorite for spotting wildlife.
